Dear Folks -
Matters of morality fall into place when we are clear about who we are. Until then all the efforts we make to control ourselves or others are doomed to fail. This is the origin of much of the violence in the world. The illustration I use in this "life talk" is that you can no more tell a person how to be than you can tell a person how to be a good cook. One can ape all the things a good cook does and still not become a good cook. The title I gave this talk is "The Religion of No Religion."

Dear Folks -
Once we have answered the "who am I?" question(s), so much else simply falls into place. Thinking that we are "separate selves" is one of the chief causes of so much of our suffering. Further, it leads us to seek for, find and punish "scape goats." Sometimes our fear-turned-into-anger is directed toward ourselves. More often, it is directed at others.
That, to the best of my ability, is a summary of the "life talk" I gave in Ordinary Life this week.

Dear Folks -
One of the major things that blocks people on a spiritual path is asking "why" questions. We only do this when we are functioning at the dualistic level of thinking.
In this talk I outline one of the theories of human development - Kohlberg's moral developmental theory - and then try to deal with not only the futility of "why" questions but also why so-called "bad" things happen in our lives and in the world.
The audio version of the talk is considerably different from the text I used. You can find the audio version on the Ordinary Life website as well as instructions for subscribing to the podcast through iTunes.

Dear Folks -
In this Ordinary Life talk I provide a road map, so to speak, of the territory - the topics and issues - we will be covering in the weeks and months ahead in Ordinary Life.
There are two paths people walk in religious and spiritual work. I call one the path of attainment and the other the path of realization. Both are, or can be, useful. Our work will be that of trying to follow the path of realization. The path of realization is marked by, among other things:
practical, true-to-the facts religion,
relevant and useful in the outer world,
love,
healing and wholeness,
the authentic teachings of Jesus,
the world of symbols,
staying in touch with non-functional people, and
humility.
I elaborate on each of these briefly in this talk.

Bill Kerley
