The Wound of Love with Michael Butera

Summary of September 8, 2013

Dear Folks -

This week in Ordinary Life we were privileged to hear Michael Butera speak. The title he gave his talk is "The Wound of Love." There is no text of the talk but the audio is available using the link below.

Before introducing Michael I gave out information about an upcoming lecture series that will be held October 11 - 13. At that time Dr. Paul Jones, author of "The Seven Deadly Secrets of the Church" will be presenting lectures on Friday night, Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning. The lectures are free but we are requesting that those who want to attend register their desire by calling 713-528-0527. That way we will know how many people to setup for. If you want lunch, there is a $7 charge.

I also introduced the church-wide educational emphasis leading up to Mitzvah Day on Saturday, October 5. On that day the goal is to assemble 120,000 meals to be distributed to those in need. More information can be found on St. Paul's website.

The remarks I made about this emphasis can be found using the "complete text" link below. The presentation slides I used and audio of Michael's talk can be found using the links below.

Much love,

Bill Kerley

Presentation by Dr. Jim Bankston - June 9, 2013

Dear Folks -

This past week in Ordinary Life Dr. Jim Bankston, the retiring Senior Minister of St. Paul's, spoke to us. It was a time for him to say farewell in a more personal manner to the class and for us to surprise him with a gift to a scholarship that has been established in his honor.

There is no text of his talk but a link to the audio is below.

In the introduction I referred to a clip of a video that we played that powerfully demonstrates Jim's integrity. The audio of that was not recorded. I highly encourage you to contact St. Paul's either by phone, 713-528-0527, or via the internet, http://stpaulshouston.org, and order the video of that service. It costs $10 and is perhaps one of the best things of its kind I have ever seen. You won't be disappointed, I promise.

Also, on May 27 Dr. Bankston spoke at the Breaking the Silence Gathering. Although there is no text of that talk either, there is a YouTube video available and I encourage your watching that as well. Please pass this on to others. Here is the link to that video -

The link to the audio of the talk the Rev. Terry Thompson gave in the Ordinary Life Gathering is also below.

Several people have asked for the content of the announcement slides that are shown at the beginning of Ordinary Life. They change, for the most part, every week. But they do contain the teaching points and goals of Ordinary Life - as well as some cool optical illusions. A link to these is also below.

Much love,

Bill Kerley

Jesus and Buddha - A Dialogue with Dr. Joseph Rachel

Dear Folks -

There is no printed text of this week's presentation in Ordinary Life. You can download both the presentation slides and the audio using the links below.

Dr. Joseph Rachel was our guest speaker. He is one of my best friends and is a devout Buddhist. He talked about his beliefs and practices and we ended up having a lively "Q&A" period.

The few presentation slides I showed at the beginning - including the cartoons and pictures of the mandala Joseph talked about and the Buddhist monks doing a sand painting are to be found below. Enjoy.

Much love,

Bill Kerley
