Dear Folks -

The talk I offered in Ordinary Life this week, “Risking Being Relevant,” begins a protracted series on what, in the Christian tradition, is called “Holy Week.” The reasons for this are given in the talk.

I began by acknowledging the truth in something I heard Dr. Jim Bankston say in a talk last year: that the church on many major issues has lost the capacity to be prophetic. The question remains: can the church remain relevant?

There are all sorts of things that block our ability to perceive spiritual truth. These are given.

The talk ends with the fact that on the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey at the beginning of the last week of his life, there was another parade going into the city from the other end - this one headed up by Pilate and his well-armed military entourage. The question this part of the story raises for us is: which parade are we a part of, which do we support.

You can find the complete text of the talk using the link below. The presentation slides carry all of the cartoons that were shown as part of the talk. The audio version is, as is often the case, somewhat different from the text.

Be well!

Much love,

Bill Kerley
