Dear Folks -
The title of the talk I offered in Ordinary Life this week was
Allowing the Vertical to Shape the Horizontal
Because I had received inquiries from some who are new to Ordinary Life, I gave a brief reprise of why I am basing these talks on the Gospel of Thomas, the history of this collection of teachings and why information about them didn’t make it into the curriculum of most churches.
When I heard social psychologist Bill Plotkin say five years ago that 80% of the adult population of the United States was arrested at late adolescent development, I believed him based on the research evidence he provided. I had no idea, however, that this would play itself out in the political realm as it has today. Divisiveness, mistrust, dishonesty and a growing lack of civility - all marks of immaturity and a lack of good impulse control - abound.
My conviction is that people who are on a path of conscious spiritual awareness must make and make manifest a commitment to psychological growth. This is the issue that I hope this talk addresses with specific and concrete suggestions as to how this might be done. We can’t do it at the head level alone, however. We must do the work to be open to “non-dual mind.”
That’s a brief summary of the talk I offered this week in Ordinary Life. You can read the text from which I spoke using the link below. The audio version contains a fair amount of additional material. The presentations slides and the audio version of the talk can be accessed using the links below.
Be well and much love,
Bill Kerley
