Dear Folks -
After the Evensong performance yesterday afternoon, I decided to bring the blog “Sacred Spaces In Scotland” to life in the coming week. If you were not able to attend, the cathedral was virtually packed to hear this last performance before the choir’s trip to Scotland. There was a full orchestra to accompany the choir. It was outstanding.
If you get seduced by all the political rhetoric and the ways the media attracts readers, listeners and viewers by using “fear tactics,” you might come to believe that we leave in the most horrendous time in history. Not so. As a globe we are healthier, wealthier, better educated, more tolerant and less violent than any time in human history. During the decade when the Gospel of Thomas was discovered and when we dropped the first atomic bomb, 60 million people died around the world. When we look out on the world in which we live, especially if we are fortunate enough to live in the United States, we see a miracle that we, really, had very little to do in creating. Our task, spiritually speaking, is to realize this and respond to it in wise and useful ways. This is the gist of the talk I offered this week in Ordinary Life. The title I gave it was -
“Mismanaging A Miracle"
The audio version is somewhat different than the written text. You’ll find the text of the talk, the presentation slides and audio version on the Ordinary Life website.
Be well and much love,
