Losing Faith - Matt Russell

ORDINARY LIFE - Thoughts and Ideas to Help You Live a Happier Life

Summary for October 7, 2018

By Wayne Herbert

Dear Folks -

Bill and Sherry are wrapping up their vacation in the Balkans and will be traveling home soon. Bill has updated his Balkan Adventures blog with his third and final post, and you can read about it by clicking here.

In Bill's absence, our speaker for last Sunday was St. Paul's own Rev. Dr. Matt Russell, Senior Associate Pastor. Matt titled his talk

Losing Faith

A central theme in Matt's talk is the idea that as we proceed through life we become "stuck" and "unstuck". We learn and grow, we have mentors that help us move forward, and then we become stuck again. We find ourselves slow, damaged, and insufficient. And then we become unstuck and move forward again.

This is a very short summary of Matt's talk. You can find the audio and video versions, as well as the slide presentation, at the links below.

If you have not registered for the Michael Dowd event, I strongly encourage you to do so. Available space is rapidly filling up. To register, click here.

Please don't forget that on October 14, Ordinary Life is privileged to have a most interesting speaker, Michael Lerner. Michael is an author, therapist, and co-founder of Commonweal, a California based center for health and healing, art and education, and environment and justice. He is a much sought after speaker, and his topic is titled -

KIND HEARTS, PEACEFUL MINDS, SKILLFUL HANDS

For more information about Michael and his talk, and the Ordinary Life event calendar, click here.

Please also don't forget that Rob Landes will be in concert on Sunday, October 21, 2018, starting at 4 p.m. Rob has performed frequently at St. Paul's both as organist and pianist. This will be a benefit fund raiser for Michael Dowd's appearance in November. There is no charge for this benefit concert and all donations are gratefully received. For more information, click here.

By the way, Bill, Holly Hudley, and Brooke Summers-Perry have been writing weekly blog posts; meaningful reflections relevant to the content of weekly lectures and to our general spiritual growth. Click the green button below to redirect to the blog.

Although it is Bill's tagline that he uses to end his summaries, I too, want to say, "If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you."

Peace and blessings to you.
