Dear Folks -
The world is filled with wonders and miracles but we take our little hand and cover our eyes and see nothing. This is a paraphrase of a teaching by Israel ben Eliezer, the person who is considered the founder of Hasidic Judaism. Being able to see is both the heart and content of spiritual practice. As we continue to leave behind a model of both religion and spirituality that is no longer either useful or credible, we must develop both a willingness and an ability “to see.” This is easier said than done.
In the talk I offered in Ordinary Life this week I dealt with not only how miracles were eventually wrapped around the Jesus story but also Jesus’ frequent and insistent emphasis on people having their blindness “healed.” I believe that we have “liberation in the palm of our hands” and that we often aren’t aware of this. We don’t “see” this.
One of the true things about us and our world is that we are evolving and live in an evolving cosmos. Being able “to see” this is a very liberating thing.
This is a very brief summary of the talk I called -
Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand
