Dear Folks -

One of the reasons religion gets abused and can be abusive is spiritual and religious illiteracy. If, for one example, people don’t know and have up-to-date information about their religious tradition, it can allow that religion to become dishonest and haphazard. One of the ways I would like to contribute to correcting this is by providing information that embraces the latest discovering and insights about, in this case, the Bible.

I am in the midst of three presentations on the Bible as I work my way through exposing the dangers of Christian Fundamentalism - especially the claim that the Bible is literally true. No one actually believe this, not even Fundamentalists. I demonstrate this in the talk I gave this past Sunday in Ordinary Life. I called it

I Never Metaphor I Didn’t Like

The previous talk on this subject was about the historical nature of the Bible. The next one will be on the “sacramental” lens through which to look at biblical materials. This one is about the need to read biblical stories and teachings from a metaphorical point of view.

That is a very brief summary of the talk.

If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you.

Be well and much love,
