It is hard to believe that we have been at this virtual gig for almost a year. Thirty two podcasts and forty one Sunday’s later, it looks like we are going to keep going in this direction for at least the next little while. This is our last podcast of the year, but I think we will be trying to make sense of 2020 for some time. It is, as Bill points out, a miracle that we can still “gather” even though we cannot yet share space. As we say goodbye to 2020, as we are unsure what 2021 will bring, I wonder what “broken windows” we need to repair? Do we need to zoom out to see more clearly? We certainly cannot go back to business as usual, but there are other choices we have. How, as Joanna Macy puts it, might we imagine becoming Shambala Warriors who contribute to the healing of the world? I hope the coming year gives us opportunities to consider participating in life with wide open hearts and wide open eyes so that we may repair our “broken windows.”
We reference many pieces of literature in this podcast. Some are: Joanna Macy, Active Hope; Eddie Glaude, Begin Again; John Tucker, Zero Theology.
I also read a poem by Omid Safi, “Where the Light Enters You” that can be found HERE.
As the year ends, as we contemplate moving forward, imagine both the broken and healed spaces. Imagine where the light enters you and then where your light enters the world.
