Becoming Dealers of Hope

Summary of Ordinary Life for Sunday, February 23, 2020

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for joining me Sunday to engage in an hour of what it could mean for us to Hope. I mentioned that in the process of writing, hope became much more tenable and graspable than truth, and worthy, I think, of our collective attention and participation. Being part of Ordinary Life, lead by the love and community of so many, I feel hopeful that we are capable of great love and compassion. In the midst of cosmic immensities and many more questions than answers, I think we can be enlarged by hope that allows us to participate in life in new and creative ways. I believe hope is a condition of being alive, in the same way that William James said, “To acknowledge God and to be alive are one and the same.” In addition to the audio, I’ll post my favorite poem from Hafiz that found me below.

Have a great (and hopeful) week!

Holly

I have a thousand brilliant lies,

For the question:

How are you?

I have a thousand brilliant lies

For the question:

What is God?

If you think that the Truth can be known

From words,

If you think that the Sun and the Ocean

Can pass through that tiny opening Called the mouth,

Someone should start laughing!

O Someone should start wildly Laughing –Now!
