Dear Folks -

In the beginning of talking about the Second Step on the Eightfold Path, that of Right Thought, I spoke about the “morality of this pandemic.” Houston, Texas is now the epicenter of the Covid-19 cases. Though there is a lot we don’t know about this virus, we do know what steps to take to “flatten the curve.” Whether to do these things is a moral matter. This pandemic and the exposure of the systemic racism that has been part of this country’s fabric from the beginning is our new “ontological shock.” There is a call for mature people to make mature responses. Altering our thinking about “what is” can go a long way in helping us with this. Both Jesus and Buddha would say, “The thought determines everything."
