Summary for September 20, 2020

Dear Folks -

In just a month Dr. Jacqui Lewis will be with us for a day long webinar. I first encountered her at a Richard Rohr Conference year before last. (This year’s conference was cancelled because of Covid.) Dr. Lewis was electrifying and just the sort of person I want to bring before those who attend Ordinary Life. We arranged a date for her to come to Houston. All of that has now changed. She will be with us but via a webinar. The success of the Michael Morwood webinar let me know that this is an effective educational tool. In fact, we can even have more people attend than if it were an in person event. I know it is not the same but it certainly better than nothing.

The webinar is free but you must register in order to get the invitation link. The dates are Saturday October 17 and Sunday during Ordinary Life on October 18. In order to register for either or both, click here

The Michael Morwood webinar was recorded. If you missed it or want to see it again, the link to do so is also on the Ordinary Life website. This is right below the invitation.

All of the Michael Morwood books have been sold.

As for this week in Ordinary Life -

We called the time -

A Justice That Empowers Everyone

I began with a long quote from Sister Joan Chittister that says that the matter of separation of church and politics has  not only been misunderstood but also has limited the church’s prophetic role in society. The Beatitude “blessed are the righteous” is really about justice. Richard Rohr says, “To live a just life in this world is to have identified with the longings and hungers of the poor, the meek, and those who weep. This identification and solidarity is already a profound form of social justice.” Holly Hudley talked about the valuable lessons taught by Brian Stevenson and shares a moving story about collecting soil from a lynching site. We must know about and seek restorative justice.

That is a very brief summary of our time in Ordinary Life this week.

You can find the text we had in front of us, the presentation slides and the audio version of the talk using the links below.

Also, be aware that we have instituted a weekly podcast. It is called “In Between.” You can access this through the Ordinary Life website.

If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you.

Be well and much love,

Bill Kerley
