Dear Folks -
There was no way not to speak to/about what happened in our nation's capitol this past week in Ordinary Life. Amazingly, the passage we were up to in the Sermon on the Mount fit the occasion perfectly. We gave the talk this title -
Saying Meaningful Things in Meaningful Ways
We are in the grips, as a culture, of some powerful and destructive shadow archetypes. What we don't know owns us. One of the shadows is that of "white, male, folk religion." The other is the culture's belief in and reliance on "redemptive violence." A truism we can trust is that "dysfunctional people produce a chaotic society and a chaotic society produces dysfunctional." There are powerful theological truths to point out about our current cultural crisis. The main one we spoke to this week was that of "truth telling." Words matter. What we say and what choose to belief about what we hear matters.
That is a very brief summary of our time in Ordinary Life this week.
You can find the text we had in front of us, the presentation slides and the audio version of the talk using the links below.
