This week we began our “deep dive” into the Gospel of John. We called it -

Crossing Over Into Sacred Mystery

Though this is the title of the talk, we have to qualify almost every word of it. We can’t enter a room we are already in and there is no division between “sacred” and “secular.” Holly Hudley introduces Evelyn Underhill’s work. One definition of mysticism is “the art of union with Reality. John is very different from the other gospels we have and was never intended to be taken literally or as factual truth. One of the reasons I wanted to understand this study is that I wanted to know rather than merely know about. The message of John in summary is that if you want to find the Sacred, then honor the Sacred within you. That way you will always see the Sacred beyond you.

That’s a brief summary of the time in Ordinary Life this week.
