Summary of Ordinary Life for January 9, 2022

Dear Ones -
This week in Ordinary Life I gave a talk I called -
Finding a New Way to Believe
I began by stating the “principles of Ordinary Life” or, as I first called them well over twenty years ago "truths about life as it is." Since the founding of Ordinary Life over twenty years ago, some things have changed dramatically - the pace at which we live, the rise of all sorts of “social media” - some things have stayed the same. One change is the growing divide in American society. This has been, I believe fueled by a misunderstood “Christianity.”
I asked people to write down their responses to this phrase: “Christianity and Me.” Then to write down what concerns and/or questions you might have for me or for Holly.
We don’t need a new set of beliefs. We need a new way of believing.
The storyline many people think is Christianity is one of - eden, the fall, condemnation, salvation in heaven, or an eternity in hell. Though this storyline can be read back into the Bible, it can't be read out of the Bible. The Jewish/Jesus storyline is one of love that seeks to set us free. God doesn't love us if we are faithful. God loves us so that we can be faithful.
I give credit to Brian McLaren for influencing my thinking and also acknowledge the virtual impossibility of putting any of this in language.
That’s a brief summary of the time in Ordinary Life this week.
