Summary of Ordinary Life for November 27, 2022

Dear Ones -
It was my absolute privilege - and fun - to get to “introduce” Holly Hudley as our speaker this week in Ordinary Life. If you were there, you know what an excellent job she did and what a wonderful response she got.
I referred to Holly as “my personal savior” because without her constant, consistent, and comforting presence as a co-teacher throughout the Covid shutdown, I could not have done Ordinary Life. For many reasons Holly lives in a much broader world than most of us do and she brings that width and depth to her teachings.
Holly began her talk by saying she wanted to present three things for consideration: that Jesus was a cosmologist, that we might consider using the phrase “grace-giving” rather than “thanks-giving,” and an invitation to explore the “beauty of tension.” She beautifully accomplished all three of those objectives. I encourage you to listen to, better yet watch the video, her talk.
You can find the text of the talk, the presentation slides and the audio version of the talk using the links below.
Coming up:
Brian Powers will teach on December 4th. Brian is a recent graduate of The Living School, an educational endeavor committed to continue the legacy of Richard Rohr.
On December 11 Stephen Klienberg will teach. Stephen, long-time former professor of sociology at Rice University, has headed up the Houston Survey for decades and will be sharing the results of his years of research about Houston and its growth and change over the decades.
I will resume teaching on December 18 and am eager to do so.
The next two Sundays are Christmas and New Year’s Day and we will not meet on those two Sundays.
Then, when we return after the first of the year, Jan Phillips will be with us. We will have a time from Saturday morning until the afternoon, including lunch. And she will return on January 7 to teach the class. Registration is already open on the Ordinary Life website with details for those who want to live-stream the event.
You can prepare for Jan Phillips time with us January 7th and 8th by reading her autobiography, “Still On Fire.” You can also watch a YouTube video that will let you have an experience of her energy and wisdom. Click here to be taken there.
Our podcast, “In Between,” can be accessed through the Ordinary Life web site.
