Summary of Ordinary Life for December 4, 2022

Dear Ones -
Dr. Brian Powers did an outstanding piece of work in Ordinary Life this week. As I said in introducing him, he is a surgeon whose mid-life crisis put him on a path where he became a certified spiritual director. He is also a recent graduate of the Living School - an educational program designed to continue the teaching legacy of Richard Rohr, the founder and leader of the Center for Action and Contemplation.
While listening to Brian I had a multitude of responses. First, how grateful I am for people like Brian who are becoming part of the religious/spiritual “conversation.” Second, how exciting it is to see contemporary biblical scholarship find such wise and useful application in our developing understanding of the “Jesus narrative.” And, third, how grateful I am for a place like Ordinary Life where such a presentation could be freely and openly given. Brian has generously made available to text from which he spoke and I’m so pleased to be able to include it here.

Coming up:
Next week, December 18, Stephen Klineberg will teach. Stephen has headed up the Houston Survey for decades and will be sharing the results of his years of research about Houston and it growth and change over the decades. He is an extremely popular and energetic speaker.
I will resume teaching on December 18 and am eager to do so.
The next two Sundays are Christmas and New Year’s Day and we will not meet on those two Sundays.
Then, when we return after the first of the year, Jan Phillips will be with us. We will have a time from Saturday morning until the afternoon, including lunch. And she will return on January 7 to teach the class. Registration is already open on the Ordinary Life website with details for those who want to live-stream the event.
You can prepare for Jan Phillips time with us January 7th and 8th by reading her autobiography, “Still On Fire.” You can also watch a YouTube video that will let you have an experience of her energy and wisdom. Click here to be taken there. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJGGm0HVxYE]
