This past Sunday I gave the sermon in both the 8:30 and 11 o'clock services at St. Paul's. Several people asked for copies of it. I have put a link in this week's Summary page on the Ordinary Life web site. The sermon's title is -
Going Beyond Belief
In Ordinary Life this week I gave a bit of a summary of territory we have covered in the new theme I've taken up. I did this because we had a break caused by Easter and by a guest speaker. So far we have talked about the power of words to shape worlds and the importance of "the trinity" made up of love, honesty, and freedom. "Reality" is not, mostly, what it is but what we have decided it is and we first make our conclusions and, then, find some way to arrive at them. Faith development is a growth process and so often we allow things that should be milestone to become roadblocks on our spiritual path. I illustrate this with "beliefs" people have about God. A metaphor for our spiritual growth is the caterpillar who balks at becoming a butterfly. I called the talk -
