Dear Ones -
The title I gave what I offered in Ordinary Life this week was
Learning To See in the Dark
I began with acknowledging that we can be blind to what blinds us. We are blinded, for one thing, by our biases. There are many kinds of biases that shape how we greet new information. This is complicated by how things - people, objects, ideas, beliefs, rituals, etc. - become part of our lives. All of this is very important to be aware of especially in this time when "the fundamentalists" have "won." We need darkness as much as we need light and we need to learn to see in the dark.
All of this is an introduction to the story of the healing of the blind man in John. The story is a parable about people who chose to see rather than stay in the dark. There are gigantic problems coming our way. I tell the story about people dealing with beached pilot whales as a metaphor for how to deal with issues facing us.
We are participants in one another’s lives at every level of being. We have a choice to live out of a new story. The invitation before us is to take up the challenges of our lives.
That’s a brief summary of the time in Ordinary Life this week.
