Dear Ones -
A few years ago I read a book in one sitting. The book was “The Book of Joy” - a series of interviews between the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. (The circumstance was that I was on a plane from Rome to Houston, so had plenty of time.) It was one of those books I wish I could get everyone to read. Now, the interviews on which the book is based have been released as a movie. The movie’s title is “Mission: Joy - Finding Happiness in Troubled Times.” Click here to be taken to the trailer of the movie. I accessed it through Netflix. I hope you watch it. Maybe more than once. The book is so much more and richer but this documentary is a good place to start.
This week in Ordinary Life I began a “mini-series” on the topic of “awareness.” Awareness is a path of transformation. The talk begins with the old joke: what did the Buddhist monk say to the hotdog vendor? “Make me one with everything.” We are already one with the Great Mystery that I call Grace. But we easily and frequently lost sight of this. I am using two things currently, Integral Theory and the teachings of Jesus, to help us become aware of where we are on the journey and, also, to service as a guide for the next developmental step in our on-going spiritual growth. One of my teachers use to say over and over: The fact of death is inevitable. The time of death is uncertain. Therefore, how shall we live? That’s what this talk begins to deal with. I called it -
