Dear Folks -

As is sometimes the case, I deviated significantly - especially near the end - from the manuscript I based the talk I offered in Ordinary Life this week.

I decided because of the divisiveness in our world - both religiously and politically - to offer on theory of psychological and spiritual development to explain this divisiveness. I begin with the theory of ego development created by Erik Erikson. Then, briefly mentioned some of those who followed and built on his, as well as each other’s, work.

Richard Rohr in his teaching has several ways of talking about spiritual growth and development. I use one of his models to offer my own interpretation of this important matter.

Elsewhere on this website I have posted a fuller explanation of Erikson’s stages of growth and another model of Rohr’s. There are links in the text to all of the theories I mention.
