Dear Folks -
We are now in Auch, France where we will stay for 3 days because of a very interesting cathedral and because there several major pilgrimage stopping places in the area. The pilgrimage so far has been great, and exhausting. You can read my latest pilgrimage posts here: http://www.ordinarylife.org/pilgrimage-trip/
Once again, Dr. Randy Zercher spoke to the Ordinary Life class about Methodism and John Wesley in the second of his three part series. Randy has provided a summary of his talk, below. Thank you again, Randy, for speaking in my absence.
"Hello Folks,
On July 13 I talked about Wesley's solution to the classic (and important) questions: what is the nature of humanity? What is the nature of God? John Wesley's solutions to the problems presented by these questions are grace and love. He presented grace as having three aspects which he called prevenient grace, justifying grace and sanctifying grace. I talked about the vitality of "sanctification" and how it allows for transformation. This grace is available to everyone, which was a radical idea in its time, and led Wesley to offer God's love and grace to the lower classes of his time. I also talked about the Quadrilateral, its uses and abuses.
You will find the complete text of my talks below, and immediately below that, the "Resources" sheet which I provided in class.
Grace and peace.
Randy"
Be well!
Much love,
Bill Kerley
