Dear Ones -

In reading/studying about “the dark night of the soul,” which we are in, I was led to the story of Mary and Martha. This led to the need to talk about what Ilia Delio calls “the neo-feminine” - deep relationality, unitive love, and wisdom. These matters are at the heart of the Gospel of John. Holly Hudley and I co-taught this class. Both John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila, who use the Mary and Martha story, teach that God is inside of us, the “soul” is not something we have but something we are, union with Sacred Mystery is something we become ware of and not something we attain, and spiritual practice consists of meditation and contemplation. If the “dark night” leads us to the realization of any of this, it is a good thing. We called the talk -
