Dear Ones -

I began our time this week in Ordinary Life by recounting my experience of the Pride Picnic at St. Paul's. Part of this included reading the litany that was read at that gathering. (If you go to the Ordinary Life website, you can see the photo of the outfit I wore that day.)

The title I gave our time this week was -

Seeking to Have a Myth Understanding

We are flung into this world into a context not of our choosing. Whether we eventually show up as who we truly are is entirely up to us. In order to construct a mature spirituality we have to acknowledge that our inherited secular/religious myth and also acknowledge that this myth is insufficient to carry us forward. "God" is two things: not out there and beyond at the same time. A mature spirituality has several marks: it is one we assume personal responsibility for; relinquishes the need for certainty; embraces the value of on-going growth; and embodies the values of peace, love, joy, patience, and humility. What we are looking for is not only already here; it is also within us.

That’s a brief summary of the talk.
