Dear Folks -

This week we undertook a new venture. We called it Odyssey. An odyssey is a journey involving adventure and danger the outcome of which one doesn’t know at the beginning. The word “odyssey” comes from Homer’s epic poem of the same name.

During this time in Ordinary Life Brooke Summers-Perry taught about “turning over tables.” Her presentation and the accompanying slides can be found on the Ordinary Life website along with the audio of her talk. If you prefer, you can see slides linked to the audio of the talk by going to this link

Brooke is an outstanding teacher. We are fortunate to have her for the times that we do.

During the time she was teaching, the regular time for Ordinary Life, I gave the homily at the 9:45 worship service at St. Paul’s. The text of that homily is below and I understand that you can find the audio of it on the St. Paul’s website. Click here to hear that audio.

After Ordinary Life and that service, those who so desired gathered for a shared meal where we had a specific list of questions to guide the table talk. Several people asked for copies of the list of questions that were on every table. Here they are:

Who has been the most important person in your life? Can you tell me about him or her?
What was the happiest moment of your life? The saddest?
Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did that person teach you?
If you could hold on to just one memory from your life forever, what would that be?
If this was to be our very last conversation, what words of wisdom would you want to pass on to me?
When in life have you felt the most alone?

How has your life been different than what you’d imagined?

The entire experience was, to me, wonderful. Odyssey got an enthusiastic response. We plan to repeat it on April 19th.
