WEEKLY PODCAST | In Between.128

Before we started, Bill and I agreed that we felt distracted, busy, and a little dry on content. But we apparently had no issue filling the “dry well” with conversations about what it means to be in community and how to repair when communities inevitably cause harm, either to an insider or an outsider. We also talked about the growing movement of those who identify as “spiritual but not religious” and wondered how they find — or define — a spiritual community that supports their values.

Bill says in the end, “Well, we might have left a lot of people scratching their heads about this one.” May, maybe not. Either way, what are your ideas about community, and have you been part of a community that heals after conflict?

Summary of Ordinary Life for May 14, 2023

Dear Ones -

I called what I offered in Ordinary Life this week -

Hospice and The Maternity Ward

At one time smoking was commonly accepted as the norm in this society. The culture, led by the American Cancer Society and the American Medical Association, saw the damage this was causing and began an educational program that led to a dramatic decrease in the number of people who smoke. I believe the same shift is possible, though not painless nor quick, when it comes to our cultural addition to violence. Death and new birth are events that occur all along the spiritual path and our work is to be able to meet both with peace, acceptance, celebration, compassion, and enlightenment. When each of us strives to become better, everything around us becomes better too.

That’s a brief summary of this week’s time in Ordinary Life.

WEEKLY PODCAST | In Between.127

There is always a conversation before the conversation or perhaps a question under the question being asked. This is the case every time we record a podcast. We talk before we talk, and sometimes it is what you hear, and others it is not.

Today we dance around this subject of spiritual freedom and belonging. What does it mean to listen deeply to the Divine or your deepest self? What is our longing there? And…where do you belong spiritually? Do your loved ones belong there too? How can we create a safe enough environment where truly everyone belongs?

Just a few of the light subjects we talk about in this 28 min podcast. Thanks for listening.

SUNDAY LECTURE | And, Who Do You Think You Are?

ORDINARY LIFE - Thoughts and Ideas to Help You Live a Happier Life

Summary of Ordinary Life for May 7, 2023

Dear Ones -

This week in Ordinary Life Holly Hudley and I co-taught and called what we offered -

Just Who Do You Think You Are?

This talk begins to move into our talking about an evolving understanding of and relationship to and with the “Self.” Though it is critical how we think about and what we believe about God, we soon discover that the Self and God cannot be separated. Holly talks about an understanding of God, based on Jungian psychology, that has us as “coconspirators” with the Sacred. She also offers some practical insights and advice about how to grow in our awareness of this “god-self.” The presentations ends with a beautiful poem she wrote for the occasion.

I mentioned in the talk a YouTube presentation that can help you identify your Enneagram number is three questions. It takes about fifteen minutes to watch. Here is the link to that. That’s a brief summary of this week’s time in Ordinary Life.
